A Quick Guide to Selling Your RV on Consignment
There are many reasons to sell your RV, including downsizing or raising some quick cash. Even though the demand for pre-owned RVs is at an all time high, selling your RV is hard work. You have to line up qualified buyers and arrange time with them to show them the RV. Fortunately, consignment allows you to take advantage of an RV dealership’s resources to get the best possible deal. Here’s a quick look at how the process works. How Does Consignment Work?
Consignment is a pretty straightforward process. As the seller, you place your RV for sale and retain ownership until it’s sold. The dealership will offer your camper for sale to the public and retain a commission on the sale. The advantage to you as the seller is getting your RV viewed by a lot more potential customers. You also won’t have to worry about meeting the buyers to show them your camper. This is often a much safer and more comfortable arrangement for both the buyer and the seller.
How Can I Sell My RV on Consignment?
When you place your RV for sale on consignment, the standard deal is usually a one to three-month consignment period. The dealership will either charge you a flat fee on the sale or a percentage of the sale price. There are advantages to both arrangements, which we will be discussing shortly. You can often also purchase additional services like oil changes, winterizing and detailing. The dealership offers you access to a lot more interested buyers, and takes care of all the sale paperwork for you.
What Are the Fees for RV Consignment?
There’s no Kelley Blue Book valuation on RVs and campers, so you’ll need to check the NADA Guide to get a suggested listing price. You can go to their website to input the make, model, condition and mileage of your RV to instantly receive an estimated value for your region.
Dealership commissions are usually between 10 to 15%, but you might be able to negotiate better terms if you have a late model camper in high demand. Be sure to also ask about setting a target sale price, which can be more profitable for both you and the dealership.
